Like so many people, Frank Fenwick creator of Sailor Ted and Shipmates, started coming to the Isle of Wight as a weekender from Sandwich Bay in Kent. After his retirement in January 2005 Frank moved into his house in Cowes on a permanent basis, unable to resist the pleasant pace of life and friendly people. As he got to know the Island better, and appreciate its diverse range of scenery, he decided to move to the West Wight, and this is where the Sailor Ted stories are based.
The idea for the Sailor Ted stories came to Frank back in 1997, but due to work commitments he didn't have the time to develop the project and it wasn't until 2006, finding retirement not enough for his active mind, Frank returned to his ideas for Sailor Ted's adventures. After 10 years his enthusiasm for SailorTed and his Shipmates has not dwindled at all and Frank is planning to release the first 2 books during the summer of 2008 and has many more ideas to follow.
The stories will all be based on and around the Island and so all of the venues will be easily recognisable to children who have read the books - you may even recognise Ruby as she and Frank walk along the undercliff chatting about Ted's next adventure!!
